Only 1 month after Ginoee’s ELIFE S5.1 was crowned “the slimmest smartphone” in the world, OPPO blew the fellow Chinese brand out of the water by releasing a 4.85mm thick phone – the OPPO R5 at the press conference yesterday in Beijing.
Being the first phone ever to own a body slimmer than 5mm, the OPPO R5 doesn’t have the flagship specs featured in the OPPO N3, which was also released yesterday. Instead, the R5 sports a 5.2-inch 1080P display, a 64-digit Qualcomm Snapdragon605 octa-core processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM. It also has a 5MP front-facing camera to take care of selfie and video chatting, and a 13MP rear-facing camera to shoot photos with more details. Limited by the body depth, the R5 only has a 2000mAh battery, but does support VOOC Rapid charge.
However, the R5′s role as the slimmest phone may as well be short-lived, as there are rumors that BBK, another Chinese manufacture, will soon release a smartphone as thin as 3.8mm.
